Scenarios 101, Episode 10
Khaine's Embrace and Phoenix Gate

Welcome, folks, to another episode of Scenarios 101! With this episode we begin the review of our High Elf vs. Dark Elf Scenarios!

Khaine's Embrace

Khaine's Embrace is a 12 vs. 12 Scenario based on the Blighted Isle. Tier 1 players of all Realms can join in this Scenario from levels 1-11.

The terrain for this Scenario is designed to funnel battles into several locations around the two Objectives: Death's Charge and Dance of Swords. Players can fight around the Objectives, or inside the tunnel spanning between the two, in their struggle to gain Khaine's favor. There are other paths which are longer routes between the capture locations that are less conspicuous, but are very susceptible to knock-backs.

When an Objective is captured, the large glowing ring that surrounds it will change colors from white to red or blue (depending on your Realm). When you capture both locations, you are granted points towards victory. After both Death's Charge and Dance of Swords are captured and held by the same Realm for 10 seconds, that Realm's team will earn points but also trigger Khaine's Wrath. To avoid imminent death from Khaine's Wrath (aka. a big glowing fireball of doom) hide out in the caves or speak to the Scion for a fast ride back to your spawn location.

Spawn points for both Realms are relatively open and guarded by NPCs. You have the option to make a straight line to the closest Objective, or go the long route which leads you to the enemy's closest Objective. A mixture of offense and defense is necessary in this Scenario since both capture points must be controlled simultaneously! Ranged players will have some advantages around the Objectives, but that quickly goes away when the battle moves into the caves. Using the longer routes will almost always get you around the Scenario undetected and unharmed, but trying to hit the Objectives from another angle other than head on is very difficult. Be ready for a challenging fight in Khaine's Embrace!

Phoenix Gate

Phoenix Gate is a 12 vs. 12 Scenario in Tier 2 High Elf vs. Dark Elf that's themed around the High Elf zone, Ellyrion. Anyone between levels 8 and 21 can hop in this Scenario.

This Scenario features classic Capture the Flag mechanics with some Siege tossed in for good measure. Each Realm must break into the other Realm's "base" and take their Banner back to theirs to earn points.

Spawn points for this Scenario are to the right of your Realm's Flag. You can either head straight out and make your way towards the enemy's Flag, or go to the left and defend your own Flag. A third option is also available-straight down the center-which will result in a healthy mix of attacking and defending with the option to go either way. Flags are in a relatively open area which can be assaulted from two major paths. One route is a head-on assault through a bottleneck that's defended by Siege weapons, and the other route is around the backside, flanking the Flag and any defenders. Once the Flag is acquired, there are several paths to escape the enemy base.

This Capture the Flag map is designed with some sneaky strategy in mind. For those who just want clash head-on in the middle of the zone, the Scenario will end, but slowly. Fortune favors the bold in this map where flanking maneuvers will win the day. Water in this zone is pretty shallow so movement speed isn't impaired that badly, and those with mounts should be on full assault! It's best to have a small force assault the enemy while keeping a larger force behind to defend. Two to three healers and a tank is your ideal assault force for capturing an enemy Flag with everyone else on defense of some kind. Try throwing in a stealth-capable career for some added Flag-capturing strategy, espionage style! Defending your Flag can be done in two areas: outside of the gates and inside the gates. If you focus your entire defense outside of the gates, you're susceptible to getting flanked. If you focus your defenses inside the gates, you could get pinned. Of course if all you're doing is defending, you won't be getting any points for capturing their Flag!

That's it for this episode of Scenarios 101! Next time we move to the final Scenarios in High Elf vs. Dark Elf... I promise!

Until next time... BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!
